Tea and bubbles

I finally tried Bubble Tea. Strange experience, and can't say I'll have it again. But I've been wanting to try these pop culture drinks for a few years. I was in Seattle yesterday and many shops advertised them in their windows. Lucky me, the one place we ran into to grab lunch had bubble tea, and I took the opportunity right then and there.

The "bubbles" in bubble tea come from the dark tapioca balls that gather at the bottom. The straw is especially wide so that you can suck up the tapioca. The flavors vary, and lychee and green tea were my options, along with watermelon, cantaloupe, and many other fruit flavors. I opted for pink. Which I believe was watermelon. Super sugary sweet, it's definitely a drink a child would like. If that child likes sugary sweet. Hello Kitty would have looked perfectly happy and at home on the side of that cup.

Yum, bubble tea.

I don't really care for bubble tea myself, but BP and several of my friends love it. The place we have in our town offers about 30 different flavors, but I stick to the mango slushy.

I haven't tried bubble tea yet either... I don't feel compelled to, but one never knows what will come across one's path.

I did however try 'Dippin Dots' have you had those? Those are seriously interesting, quite tasty, and fun to eat! I haven't found them in Eugene yet- although I haven't looked too hard... but they have them at a McDonalds in Cottage Grove which is about 20 minutes or so south of here on I5.

I don't think i'd like bubble tea, the tapioca balls are grossing me out just THINKING about them!
I do like Dippin' Dots though!

I have never understood the appeal of bubble tea, but that's probably because I hate tapioca pudding. Gross!

I also don't understand the appeal of Dippin' Dots. Freezer-Burned Ice Cream Pellets is what they should be called.

I sound really cranky and intolerant, don't I?

Ok I just dry heaved looking at the picutre and reading that you suck those "chunks" (bubbles....whatever) up through the straw!

L'Ailee loves that stuff. She loves anything super-sweet, however, and she'll buy food and drinks for looks as much as anything else. Me, I'm not so fond of it.

Hello Kitty tea! That's perfect! :-)

I didn't want to be to graphic in my comment but PAgent hit the nail on the head with his/her description of what the bubbles remind me of.

Hurl!!!!!

Don't even get me started on ice chewing: mmmmmmm.......ice...............

But yes, Pagent, the balls have that consistency. You are correct.

P.s. I've never had Dippin Dots and I still have no idea what they are, blu. I'll keep my eye out for them!

I love tapioca pudding (like my mom made, not the store-bought stuff) and I love tea. But I'm really out of the loop since I've never heard of bubble tea. And, from the less-than-appetizing descriptions, it sounds like that's a good thing!

Oddly enough, the first time I had bubble tea was in Seattle. The second time... I don't remember... it was THAT memorable. I'm not counting on a third time... I've never sucked fish eyeballs thru a straw before, but I can only guess this to be exactly what it'd be like.
