FBIC VOD: Signs of North Portland

Ah, another adventure into the signs of North Portland. This here is what used to be known as Fabric World. As you can tell, they've lost a few letters. This is on the other side of the corner that gentrification forgot....The corner that gentrification forgot
I used to really hate this place, but I have to say it's grown on me, in a weird way. So many of North Portland's old places are being bought up and remodeled and made into coffee shops and cool retail places, and they're looking so much better. But then there are those stalwarts that just hold onto their buildings without keeping them up, letting letters fall off their signs, dirty storefronts, you just know they can't be making much money. Alas, they hang on. And FBIC VOD is hangin' on. You go FBIC VOD!

What I want to know is who is drinking all this coffee that it demands so many coffee shops to be open? And don't get me started on bottled water...

They lost a "few" letters... try MOST of them LOL

Our new (old) house is near downtown and it just makes me sad how things have run down and changed so much in the past twenty years.

Signs fall down and gas prices go up. Nice reflection in the window ;)

It's like saying the name "fabric world" after a big day with the dentist!

This place has always fascinated me. It seems to be empty every time I drive by but, as you say, it keeps hanging on. Even though the signage doesn't.

I too don't get the coffee shop bit. Four of them in 4 blocks is a bit of overkill. It's time for more/better restaurants.

BTW...Christie's is advertising "Under New Management" so we stopped and asked who took over. They told us it was the same owners and seemed a bit uneasy about our asking.

Desperate measures.

I hope FBIC VOD isn't on your calendar of things to do with mom and dad in Portland!

Oh, Fabic Wod (the "W" was intact when I left Portland). How I miss thee.

Ah-ha-ha-ha!! I love that this is on here! I always say 'FBIC VOD' to my daughter when we drive by it, and every time, she goes, 'What?' and I have to point to it again and we both laugh. That's just great!
