Potting plants in the garden...
Buying lots of marbles on sale and throwing them in the garden gravel paths...
And here's a plant I have to get in the ground this weekend. We were out and about in St. Paul visiting nurseries, and as I was checking out at Ferguson's Fragrant Flowers Nursery I asked if they carried this plant. Voila! They do! So I got it. It's common name isn't listed on its tag, and its common name is because of what it smells like. Who knows what plant this is and what it smells like?

Oh! It's Betony! (Sometimes called Texas Betony) Really pretty coral flowers! Nice choice.
Maggie, you amaze me. But while it may be called Betony, that's not the common name I'm looking for. I know it as a different name, called such because of the scent it gives off. Try again....
Ooooo, the pressure's on, but I won't disappoint. It's called the Seven-Up plant! I have this one and love, love, love it! It blooms its head off, lelo, bringing in the hummers. Give it good drainage, it tends to rot out in heavy soil.
btw, it's not nice to show off those mouth-watering photos without offering us a bite. ;-)
I love the idea of adding marbles to gravel! Do you add them to your gravel paths or to gravel mulch around your plants? If the former, do the marbles eventually migrate below the gravel's surface?
On that plant name...don't ask me why I had to spell it out. Sheesh, I got all formal on you when it would have been so much easier to say 7-up.
Ding! Ding! Ding! Bemused is correct. It smells exactly like 7-Up. So weird, and quite popular with kids in our garden. I didn't know about the hummer attraction though. Cool! As for marbles in the gravel, Rozanne and I saw this idea in a local garden, Nancyland, and I just fell in love with it. We first threw them all around in the gravel path last year, and eventually they were carried off by visiting children and neighbor children excited in finding the "hidden" bounty. I love that. We're replenishing this year, and they continue to treat. They roll around somewhat, but the sun catches their color and if you look down, you see them. I haven't used them in mulch in pots, but they'd be great for that.
7-Up Plant? Really? Wow! I've never heard of that one. Very cool. I'll have to see if any of the nurseries know it by that name.

Hey Brett! You can find marbles on sale periodically at Fred Meyers. They run 2 for 1 sale on low key kids stuff, and marbles are included in that grouping. Keep your eye open!

That is a maidenhair fern isn't it? If so, it will come back next year, so don't dump the pot!
Genius. So often do I eat pizza and think to myself, "This is good, but how can I get it to make my pee smell funky?" Problem solved.

Hey, thanks for the great "tip" about putting marbles on the gravel paths. I have desert landscaping (a.k.a. rocks) and bought some glass marble-like ovals at the dollar store and put them in the front where my solar lights are. It's a very pretty look!
