When life is lived in color

hot red fall in portland
Color evokes emotion and memories. It can evoke a scent even without the presence of scent there. How do you see color in your daily life? Do you see patterns and repetition of it during certain times of the year? Do you wear red all year long or only in December? What about orange?

I've been cooking with orange....what with sweet potatoes and butternut squash, pumpkin bread. Orange is so indicitive of fall, lighting up the trees and the sky and the ground with orange, red and pink swaths of bold color. It's warm, when the days and nights are getting colder. It's in warm plaids and tangerine fleece, and evidently, it's also in mango pudding.
Fall color + Mango pudding = visual poetry
And mango pudding steams. Pretty.

Lelo, I've been meaning to tell you that I love your photographs. What sort of camera are you using?

I also love the photos and feel the same way about fall and orange. I have a butternut squash waiting to be transformed. And I will be using your sweet potato fry recipe this. Yum. Orange is warm and delicious.

I love the steam coming off of the pudding. That shot is fantastic!

I love color and pay a lot of attention to it in my everyday life.

I happen to wear red all year long, but then again, it's my favorite color.

Dang it! All of this food writing on blogs this morning is making me hungry! You are a true artist Lelo. I admire you so much for your expression and how you just "get" things and are able to share them with the rest of us so eloquently.

Orange is particularly suggestive of fall to me, but red is not so much associated with December. I've always treated it as a neutral color and tend to wear red shoes a lot. Not every day; that kind of obsession is reserved for my new boots from Switch in Multnomah Village. Have you been? It's lovely. They do 10% off sales on First Fridays, get everyone all liquored up, and then take all their money and send them off with awesome shoes.

I'm a fall color freak. And I probably freak out most over the incredible orange-scarlet maples. Wowowowowow!

I'm mesmerized by those curlicues of steam coming off the pudding. That is not easy to capture with a camera. Well done.

And now I will QFA.

I love this study in color. I've been paying a lot of attention to the colors of fall, too.

Hello from a fellow North Portlander, by the way. I recently found your blog and am really enjoying it.

Guy-I use a Canon Rebel, and I almost never use the flash. Natural light is my secret.

Witchtrivets-Please let me know how it goes with your sweet potatos!

Lisa-Thank you! I had no idea about the swirls of steam until I looked at the photo.

Patti-Ah, thanks. :)

Christine-Red shoes are awesome, and no, I have not been to Switch, but thank you for the heads up!

Rozanne-Maple trees give good color. :)

Elizabeth-Thank you for stopping by and commenting! I'll have to come visit another North Portlander blogger's blog!
