Eating local: how do you do it?

We're eating local this summer. AdRi can't even stop at the store on her way home to buy berries. She stops at the U-Pick and picks them herself. How local can you get? I'm eagerly awaiting the tomatoes mere steps from our front door. And if the eggplant ever kicks into gear, mere steps from our back door. In the meantime, we have...

Cherries: 60 miles
Eating local: cherries, 60 miles

Eggs: 2 blocks
Eating local: eggs, 2 blocks

Love that. How local can you go?

We've been pricing eating local. At this point it literally costs twice as much for local fruits and vegetables in this part of CT. With the price of food and gas, unfortunately we can't justify paying the local prices.

We are trying to eat local also. I am glad you posted how many miles away each food item is. We go to the local farmers markets and farms. Also, I am loving all of your pictures and recipes.

We've been eating local since before it was cool. Then again, it's not that hard in Mississippi with our never ending growing season.

ooh, i need your egg source, too. We got eggs through sauvie island organics' csa last year and then they quit providing them, just when we'd become totally addicted!

It is so easy to eat local in Portland, sometimes even for free and I feel so very lucky to live here. My backyard raspberries, own backyard egg gifting flock and loads of free fruit trees in the neighborhood are just wonderful.

Those eggs look fabulous! No pickle relish? Perfect.
