Breaking News! Attention! The first tomato of the season has been picked!

It was June 30th, and the first ripe cherry tomato of the season was picked from our garden.

It was then eaten. Second ripe tomato, this one an orange cherry tomato, has been spotted and its days are numbered.

Wink checked in on her carrots and they are growing well but are not yet ready for harvesting. In the meantime, she's quite happy with the wild abundance of sugar snap peas we have. So abundant they've fallen over the fence into the neighbors.

More news will be posted as it becomes available. Good day, and good night.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek that's so so so exciting! My little cherry toms have tons of baby green guys on them, but no color as of yet. I'm so jealous.

Is that orange cherry tomato a Sungold, by chance? That's what we have in our garden; sadly, it'll be weeks before we see the 1st one...

Wink in the background of that picture made my heart sing.

The secret to getting a ripened tomato prior to the 4th of July in Portland, Oregon, are Walls of Water. Or plastic wrap around the cages. And after this horrific cold spring, it is truly a momentous day, as Michelle said!

Yes, Betsy, that's a Sungold: good eye!

And Lindsey, so glad you caught that: I did that on purpose, making sure Wink was in the photo. She's my garden buddy. She was hoping I'd pick her another sugar snap pea.

I don't expect ripe tomatoes until September after the miserable weather we've had. But I'll enjoy them whenever they arrive.
