Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Kansas state flower up close
My gardening column in Just Out has started up again. 'Tis the season!

And my first column in '09 is about bees. Did you know in Oregon we have native bees and European bees? One's a loner, one's into living in colonies. Figure out which is which and learn about keeping bees in your garden: totally buzzworthy.

Shouldn't that photo have been taken in Kansas? :)

I just took a full-day training class on beekeeping this weekend. My package of bees arrives next month, and I am looking forward to getting them installed and involved in my garden. We have a couple local bee guilds who offer classes and support for n00bees, and honestly, it is not that hard. I am most worried about being stung, but even that is not too awful. I always have the honey to look forward too!
