We're using reclaimed fir from an old Portland building in our new kitchen. I wish I knew its history. Here it is in one of the three areas where it will be...
The worm holes and knotholes have been sealed up with a clear resin, so you can still see them, but the surface is smooth. I love that it has history and that it's not just being tossed aside, but given another life.

Just gorgeous! I'm glad that beautiful wood found a good home. I'm curious though--what is that little cupboard at the end of the built-in cabinets?
Hugs, Mom
I love it too. Our hardwood floors are very old and I love the knotholes (I prefer the term knothole to wormhole) LOL
Your house is coming along wonderfully and also you are great for "being there" for RSG.
Awww. Isn't Patty sweet?
LeLo it is just gorgeous. Gorgeous!
Oh lovely. And so warm. And such a good idea -- hmmm. Need to go see if we have any wood to reclaim for our countertop/bar area...
Applause!
Beautiful. I, too, would love to know its history.
Sometimes one doesn't have a choice. In our 1890's house when we have to do anything structural - i.e. reframe a window - I have to hit the rebuilding center and pick up a true 2 x 4 which is 2" by 4" instead of the dimensional lumber you get at Home Depot. Luckily we have that resource close by. Kitchen and bath are lookin' good girl!
Love it. Can't wait to sit at that bar at watch you cook something for me.
Is that the finish line I see? ;-)
I don't know why anyone would use new wood. Reclaimed wood has such great character, it's much more beatiful and interesting.
Great choice, Lelo. I love reclaimed wood. Beautiful.
Wow, it looks great. I Love that you gals are recycling timber. Good for you. The hubby just reminded me that this spring/summer we have to return to our renovations. UGh.
Oh well, the house is looking awesome, so I shouldn't complain.
That is beautiful. It has history, character, it "speaks".
Gorgeous! And I have to say i love that beadboard...!
oops - thought I'd commented on this earlier!
That countertop is the bomb! (well, really, it's wood, but I think you know what I mean ;)
I've shown the pics of your renovation to Mr. Wonderful, and he's wondering if you wouldn't mind taking a trip to the Midwest.... ;)
Your place is so awesome now and is going to be exponentially awesome when you're finished! btw, I have never seen someone making the best use of available natural light as you have!!! Great place!
My town has a 'construction reclamation' business. It's great for getting old materials. I'm always cruising it for old doorknobs.
Gush gush and more gush: thank you for all of the kind words. :)
