Roller girls will kick your ass

roller derby fast
Ever since reading of Rozanne's experience at Roller Derby, I've been wanting to go. The season is just getting underway and let's say here and now, those girls rock. And the scene is so Portland and a great mix of all different kinds of people. And the place was packed! It's totally not about exploitation of women under the faux guise of sports: it's about women rockin' it. But I did notice the guy ref' wore short shorts...

And I had no idea Elvis would be there...

That's Saavy D kickin' it with Elvis: nice to see her on this side of the country, along with her lovely husband PhiDo. Heh heh heh. PhiDo. Oh, it's the little things that make me laugh.

I am ***so*** going to go to more Roller Derby matches. Those girls kick ass.

I love, love, love, roller derby. I really wish A&E didn't cancel that Rollergirls show.

Ack! I just typed out a comment and lost it! Let me try this again....

I enjoyed the A&E show, too. Bummer they got rid of it....but keep "King of Cars".

I keep hearing about the Portland Roller Derby on the damnportlander's Live Journal community. I got to get there sometime.

Glad you had a good time! The pictures turned out great!

Attending is great, but when are we going to see LeLo out their thrashing it? Your stage name could even be "The Bladed Avenger."

Wasn't the match fantastic??!!!

I only wish that Portland would have won at least one more bout. But there's no denying that Seattle's roller girls were good. Portland has better outfits, though.

And, yeah, what was the deal with the ref's shorts? Has he been wearing those since he was a kid or what? Weird.

And were you or were you not totally creeped out by Seattle's mascots? That horrid rat and those two grease monkeys. Ick.

Anyway, like you, I totally enjoyed the tournament. Unfortunately we were sitting amongst Seattleites who were in full-on gloat mode. Not cool. But about what I expected of them.
